These are a couple locations from the city of Cauldron that aren't really detailed in any of the published adventures, but figure prominently in the overall Dungeon Magazine "Shackled City" campaign, as taverns generally do in city campaigns, I suppose.

Anyhow, I figure one can never have too many tavern maps, so I thought I'd share in hopes they find a use in other peoples campaigns.

Hey--this could be the first contest entry!

EDIT: Just let me know that you want this in the contest and I'll change the subject lines and what-not.

Yeah, Demetrius ...
Rename this thread to "CONTEST: Inns & Taverns".

Kudos on being the first and with excellent entries
You raise the bar veeery high for others here ...

He, I never saw those swinging door before ...
Could you also post any art that is new here (part of the contest rules - see the Social Lounge forum).

And also the DJA and a zipped version of a larger JPG ... (please)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaay Cooool

Just another question:
Where do the tables in the slippery eel come from (the square ones at ground level) ?

And thanks for using my bar I really liked how you tweaked it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Cecil, if you'd like to change the title of this thread and use this as the contest thread, that's ok by me. I'd be honored to be the first to submit a map for the bragging rights. I will update the post to include zip files of the dja files along with any art people may not have.

The only 'new' art used is a modified door that I found posted here and just modified to add a swing effect. Here it is for anyone that doesn't want to download the zip files.

There are also a couple sets of dice that I cropped and drop shadowed from a picture I found. I'll post those here to, I suppose.

There are a couple other cover effects used to shade the staircases, they are in the zip file, and one of them has been posted before by Kepli, but I included it anyway in case anyone missed it.

The tables are actually from Fluid's Dungeon set. There are some items in that set that seem like they fit better with other art packs, that table being one of them.

I love your bar, by the way, I think its 100% more useful than the bar that comes with Fluid's Village art pack. Not to mention it is much easier to modify to fit into different sized barrooms.

You can change the title yourself by editing the very first post ... I don't think Cecil has rights enough to change it

OK, thread title has been changed ... some forums allow that field to be changed after posting, and others require an administrator to change it. I thought that may be the case here, but I guess not

Oh, I guess I made that door, cool what you've made from it. I like this better than using arrows...

About that table ... well DOH!
I recall having used that in several of my first maps before my timeout...

Demetrius,
Looks like you or someone beat me to it.

Stickified the thread (until someone or a consensus tells me not to) and added #1 to the subject.

Lovely maps with good detail.

About the Tipped Tankard's second floor... is that a stone well? On the ~second~ floor? Or is that a basement and I'm seeing it incorrectly?

I love that secret meeting room... I can just see a bunch of the Aurum (Eberron faction for you bad, awful people that don't have the ECS) gathered around the long table there.

In the Slippery Eel, I really like the sunlight effect at the third floor windows... it looks excellent, and I like how you did the raised platform of the stage on the ground floor.

Thanks for the compliments, Rake. Glad you liked the maps.

The Tipped Tankard has no second floor, only a basement. I tried to show that by making the stairs up from the basement get brighter as you ascend, and the stairs down to the basement darker as you descend. Perhaps the effect doesn't work as well as intended.

I think the problem is with the shadows on the individual steps, then. Not the overall shadowing mind you, but the individual shadows on each stair. Those shadows have a hard line on one side, and are faded on the other. The edges the stairs are cast shadows on the steps below them, in other words, and I think yours are backwards?

Anyone else see this, or is it just me?

To be honest, Rake, it matters very little to me. A verbal description by the DM (in my group, that's me)would clear any confusion my players may have anyway. I'm not going for 100% realism in these maps anyway, just a better looking map for my players to look at than black lines drawn on a plexiglass topped table.

Perhaps if I was planning on entering these maps in a contest I may have paid more attention to details like that, but the fact is I never intended to enter any map-making contest, and I certainly have no hope of winning. If you dont like the stairs and want to use the maps you can download the dja and change them. Of course you'll probably find alot of [?]'s where objects should be as my art folders are a bit of a mess.

This contest entry was so incredibly close to geting my vote!

It will make it into my game. I especially like the Tipped Tankard with the alleyway through the building. It was one of those - "I wish I'd thought of that" things.

The visual appeal in these maps are incredible and I am certainly looking forward to more maps.

Once again, I ended up weeding out entries and my personal affinity for a few sentences of backstory. . . . but it was really close.

This map was also very high on my list for Best Inn. I really like the layouts and the incredible use of art pieces. Nice work

By the way, I did post an overview map with my contest entry. It is cut in four and posted so it looks like one big map (on my browsers at least).

Ah, sorry Kepli, I just looked through all the pages of your entry post again with my browser window fullscreen and found the overview. Somehow I missed it ... sorry I did too, as it would have definitely made my top 3. Though I dont know who you would have replaced ... 3 choices isn't enough with all the great maps that were submitted.

Yup, making a choice for the top 3 was a real b#$ch ... I constantly felt guilty for not nominating others. We make some pretty darn good maps here
