Has been ages since I posted anything here. But this forum over the years has been a source of inspiration in my maps, so wanting to hopefully give back a little bit more.

Trees are so hard to do right. I like mine a little on the sparse side so you can see the ground beneath the branches. I used this tree in a frozen river theme map this past week, so I was able to get by with using less leaves also which really opened things up.

Great job. If you don't mind me asking, what program do you use to create?

Thanks.

I have been messing around with Blender a little bit, mainly on trees as I find realistic trees are tough to come by. Even then, if you get too realistic you can't see through them, which makes mapping rather boring. So I try to balance the two.

What I do in Roll20 is create tree trunks that act as solid cover and then lay a canopy "shadow layer" over them to look like
this:

It would be ideal if Roll20 actually had a canopy layer (call it a cover layer) so that the characters moving around can hide.
In video games they have a rolling "disappear zone" around the character that dissolves the top layer as the avatar moves.

Nice work - and a lot of thought as to how it would work

Posting up another tree.
A lot more foliage. Not liking the bark as much.

Also posting a zip on this one. I seem to lose all my detail when trying to get it under 500k. Any suggestions let me know there. I am aware I tend to go for overkill when producing assets, but always want the detail there if I need it. To put it into perspective, this zip is only 1.6 MB, and the file I save is 10.6MB. I might have a problem.

It depends on what you are doing with the image. If it is going to be used in another picture you want
the highest resolution. If you are going to use it in say Roll20 you want to keep the sizes down as
all the players have to download the image and I have "over-run" Roll20's ability to update a map with
too many large images.

Thanks for the nice trees BTW!
