I updated the thread to include 4 tree samples of the 50. I didn't have much time last night to include them.

What did you make these in Dorpond? The leaves have a real brushed feel to them (which I like).

For people who like to use an extra shadow on their maps I made this shadow to go with the green tree on the samples above.

Hey Bogie, let me know if my shadows are not good enough. I
need to learn this stuff and I can easily change all my
shadows to what the community needs. Plus I am making
another pack of trees so..

It is a very tricky little app though - have all sorts of
settings for trunk, branches, leaves, etc. Long ago I gave
up with it, but lately I figured I would blast through the
high learning curve. Since I am no artist, it need all the
tools I can get :)

Your shadows are fine, slightly darker might be a bit better but not a significant issue. Most people are happy with the type of shadow you've made.
The difference is a few of us like a more defined drop shadow that we can offset to give a greater illusion of height. While photoshop and other programs can easily add a permanent dropshadow to the tree it looses the flexibility of putting it where I want. So, I like a separate shadow I can place where I want.

These are really nice, Dorpond. Any chance for some darker green ones?

@Dragonwolf: Of the original set or the new style?

My next pack will have several different types of 'evergreens'

Here are some samples to come (Shadows haven't been applied yet):

Those are excellent. I wish my laptop could handle that program, but it simply can't. It bogged down so far it took five minutes to get the Task Manager up
so that I could kill it.

I think most would like the shadowed version just like you did the others.

I took some pictures of some evergreen leaves
today so hopefully ill come up with more
interesting versions.

I am also doing palm trees and I plan on making
them face different degrees so they can be used
realistically on your maps ( those trees lean so
facing is important, and rotation is possible)

Stay tuned!

How do does these samples look?

Do you like that color or this better? I like my choice of colors above better, personally.

Also, I am since these are tall trees and the shadow is sort of directional, I am thinking of not including shadows, but I am uncertain. Thoughts?

[edit] Hmmm, I think I might change the trunk texture.. It just doesn't feel colorful enough to me...

The first one is perfect!

The second one's angel seems "off".

The third is more of a fern than palm in my opinion.

And yes, most palm trunks are a light taupe/khaki color, growing grayish over time.

Damned good though for an initial run!

Thanks for reminding me we have to trim our palm tree in the front lawn!

The first one is great. The trunk on ours is a brownish grey, not the blue-ish grey above.

I'm jealous! I am getting ready for snow here!

Thanks for the heads up with color! I'll give it another
go-round in the near future!

:) Don't be jealous. The squirrels plant the dates all over the place and they come up the next spring - foot hazard. Our fruitless Mulberry tree is finally dropping its leaves. And, though we don't get snow normally (twice in the 40 years we've lived here) we get fog, dark grey, gloomy fog for weeks, then we get rain and then more fog. Rain due tonight as a matter of fact.

OK, I have about 200 trees in total so far. I plan on
breaking them up into 11 meg chunks and uploading them to
RPGMapshare (Man, if only that 11 meg limit was 20 meg,
this would have been done a long time ago).

Before I go through all the pain, what do you prefer?
Shadowed versions or shadowless?

You guys are the artists so I want to make your lives
easier.

Let me know and I will get after it.

Tree with no shadow, + filed alphabetically beside it, it's shadow.

Shadow can be made by making the picture black, slightly transparent and slightly blurred). A separate
shadow allows it to be used straight under, or offset/ resized for different lighting conditions.

It would also double your workload.

I updated the original post to include 3 more art packs (Split into 6 different downloads).

They are all shadowed versions. Sorry for those who requested non-shadow.

I hope they are useful to you.

These are great! I had a lot of spare time at work today because of the holidays, so I downloaded them and played a little bit and these are stunning.

Having access to a high end Ricoh which prints 11x17 at photo quality without anyone else around is kind of awesome

Awesome trees Dorpond, thanks for sharing.

Sadly, all the linked (Rapidshare) ZIPs are dead (page
not found).

Please, is anyone able to breath life back into them?

The linked files aren't on Rapidshare, they're on rpgmapshare.com, but they are indeed broken links now, since the site had major technical issues and everything got moved around.

Browse this link to get them all.

Thanks, much appreciated :)

My apologies, I've been looking at a lot of old forum
posts with dead links, many of which were using
rapidshare.
