First art contest I've entered. I know it's not great, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah, no need to apologize, it is fantastic.
Makes me want to go back and do more touch-up on my tables,,

This contest topic is really getting people involved, I hope the map contest does as well

Excellent!

Just one comment.... I keep doing a double take on the fleur de life sometimes seeing it raised up then inlaid.

If its supposed to be inlaid then try using an inner shadow on that object rather than a bevel.

Thanks for the feedback. It may not look it, but that actually is the inner shadow. I played with it for over an hour trying to make it look inlaid, using various inner shadow settings. I finally got fed up with it because none of them were working.

Use an inner shadow with a distance of 0.

I just tried a few other options, and it looks like the "Inner Glow" filter for GIMP returned better results than the "Inner Shadow." JPEG below for comparison. If it looks better to you guys, I'll swap the new for the old.

Looks better, but you should probably make the shadow a bit darker.

I like the new version more than the original.

A matter of taste I suppose, the new one looks more like a gold inlay which is probably the effect you are looking for, while the original looks like it is carved-recessed into the table. Even though carved is less realistic, I find it more interesting to look at.

Either way, they both look great.

I like the second version better myself. Would hate to be the servant that had to clean out the indent in the middle...
