At Christmas 1914, against strict orders, opposing soldiers stopped fighting and met in no-mans-land. They laid down their rifles, sang carols, set out little candle-lit Xmas trees, swapped newspapers and wine, and even played an impromptu football match amid the shell craters.

Of course the Germans won the football."The regimental records of the 133rd Saxon Regiment records a football match which they won 3-2. This score was also supported by a letter published in "The Times" from a British major in the Medical Corps." However they lost the war, which is fair enough.

History here

The ball
No lightweight plastic rubbish back then; headering those leather monstrosities could cause concussion! I know, they were still around when I was a boy, and I was good at headers.

The trenches are modified versions of my trench set. As suggested by CDenham (thanks!), they have had the "spoil" removed to allow them to fit in with most terrain types.

Hi Folks,
Hopefully the positive Peace and Tranquility of the spontaneous Ceasefire balances what happened to the poor little Munchkins.

I had planned to enter...
Evil Bunker II
...but Kepli returned from holiday too soon and voting started already and it's 9 days late anyway. The bunker started as an iceberg base, then a icy mountaintop but all were messes so I dug a bunker underneath instead. Me like bunkers...
