Ok I tought we could start a new very cool topic....the presets....here we could all post our presets thing..table with some beer on it..stove full of cookin things a bed full of pillows , some table with maps on it ( like the one from cisti)
anything that you don't have to put much effort on it and have a full result...would be pretty cool to have lots of them, mix them all together and then pop you got a fully detailed map quick and full of beauty.......so Who is going to be the first one to do it!
I will do one or two myself just to start...
lets do hundreds of them..people are crazy about theses things ....
SO lets get to work and make this thread to most useful and complete ever!

SC, the blasted gate looks great, but it would be much more useful without the stone floor, IMO.

A couple more from some older maps...

A common man's table

A miss-matched sitting area

A wizard's desk (I know there are a number of these floating round)

And a thief's workbench

I made all of these for one of my players whose characters bought a house. The joys of homeownership!

Wow, I really love this thread. Great idea, great additions!

Preset sitting areas are really saving a lot of time and these are all beautiful! And the broken entrance simply blows me away!

here's a butcher's worktable to add to this fine collection. i wasn't sure if a meat grinder was period-appropriate but who doesn't love a meat grinder? i can remove it if someone needs the table without it.

and here's a .jpg to show what it might look like on a floor:

Fantastic IronDwarf!!!

Before everyone else starts asking, can we get the table and the stuff on it as separate items? The cleaver & knife are great. Are they photos also?

Do you work in a butcher shop, or just eat really well?

Very nice.

Not to be too picky..but on the lower SW part of the table along the wooden edge and the 'felt' table top, you can see a gap with part of the chair showing through.

Very realistic! There will be many settings for using this...

Is it possible to get the stains and scratches as layers?

the stains are blood stains gotten from this forum and the scratches are simply lines with a photoshop effect (inner bevel).

here's a link to the ps file for anyone who wants it.

and here's a .jpg to show what it might look like on a floor:

one more. how about a candle maker? i had no idea what kinds of tools he might use so i just made up whatever seemed to make sense.

and here's a .jpg to show what it might look like on a floor:

of course, here is the .psd file if you want to tweak it for your own setting.

and for those of you who didn't pick up on this, i have now done the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker.

great stuff ID, as usual !!

All those will probably be used in an upcoming adventure, they gave me a
lot of inspiration on things to fluff that one out.

Wow! Very realistic! Nice details!

We have a butcher, a bakery and a candle maker. What is with other shops of craftsmen? A smith or a corner shop would be a very often used scenery, too...

Or has someone something for a theater or a temple? I will need these for my next adventure...

thanks, everyone. btw, i usually build my ps files larger than the .pngs i post here, especially on complex items like the ones in this thread. just thought you should all know. this way you can scale down to just about any size or repurpose for something larger. for example, the butcher shop .png is 1000px wide but the .psd is 1400px wide.

i should also add that NONE of the pieces i did would have been possible without all the great art from all the other great artists on this forum! many, many, many of the objects in my presets were direct pick-ups of someone else's contribution.

Your welcome. Keep making such great objects!!
The owner of CG was very cooperative in allowing us use of his textures. There are some limitations as he doesn't want anyone just re-distributing his work or pirating it.
For instance, instead of posting the original photo I linked you to it. We can freely use the art in our maps but shouldn't just re-post the original.

And, according to my wife, I don't sleep enough. I tell her that sleep is distracting me from mapping.

Heh, be cool to pop it into a corner of a (fantasy) pub or inn and see if players notice it as their 'characters' check the room out before ordering.

That's funny, because I was in the process of doing that myself. Guess I don't need to bother now.

What, no Funions or Cheetos?

Great idea!!

Reminds me of the old comic that showed a bunch of Barbarians and Wizards sitting around a table playing "Students & Accountants 2nd Ed"

In AD&D DMG 1.0 there was a comic strip of a fighter and a cleric playing a fantastic fantasy role playing game called paper and
paychecks. They pretended they were students and workers in an industrialized world.

Also, this can be very like The Gamers.

Thanks! Yes, I am non-edition specific and non-setting specific (ps... Ravenloft is in there, too!) I have no idea what the map is from. I just picked a couple of cool looking ones from my library and slapped it down. I realized now that I forgot to put minis in there... I had intended to, but in my zeal to post I guess it slipped my mind.

Cheetos and Funyuns! Crap! If I'd had some good .pngs I may have snuck those in as well. Maybe someone can do a mod...?

Also, I have a ton more D&D books ready to post, if people want them. I'm sure if it violates any copyright laws, though...

i think someone asked for some shelves and crates. pretty simple but is this what you were looking for?

and here's a .jpg to show what it might look like on a floor:

here is the .psd file.

and here's just the shelves along with the layered .psd so you can put your own items on each shelf:

Fantastic ID

Most of the other multishelf pieces on the forum are to isometric and look tipped backwards, this is much better.

sure. so long as you're opening the file in a program that supports photoshop layers just place an object on a new layer above the layer of the shelf you want it to sit on. for example, you can see i put a jar on the middle shelf by positioning it's layer between the middle and top shelf layers. (the hue/saturation layers are just there to adjust the color of the wood. you can tweak these adjustment layers or discard them. if you leave them just be sure to make sure they are always the first layer over the shelf, then add your objects above them)

does that help?

Its a good start Thanks!
For some reason I have a hard time grasping how to work with layers. (BTW I have an older version of PS, so it's similar but a bit different)
I'll play with this info and see what I can do.
Again THANK YOU

Great idea with house presets. We all have to create villages from time to

I'll try to get something else going soon too. I've been working on something a little different for the last week--a dungeon-crawl-style modular board game (a la Descent) for younger kids that aims to help teach reading, writing, and basic math.

Munchkin abuse of old D&D rules:
You purchase a 10 foot ladder, split it into 6 3 foot poles, and sell
those, and the coppers you gain will make you a billionaire.

I did it using OmniGraffle (awesome app for all you Mac OS X users out
there), so it was quite reasonable timewise.

I used many pre made items from here (hence the long file name), and
made a group of a bunch of items, then duplicated that group, rotate,
dup, mirror-rotade dup etc etc. Used some of my covers also to drop
behind it.

OmniGraffle works with images as objects, and has layers and order of
objects within each layer. Thats why I use it for all object adding to all my
maps (and layers can be hidden of cause to easy editing).

No, I dont work for them, I just love that piece of code.

Wow, this is like the best thread ever!

I usually work in a lower resolution so unfortunately few of my things are going to be useful here but I can throw out some ideas to keep the ball rolling:

* Stacked crates (to make a warehouse like the end of raiders of the lost ark)

* crowds of humans for a busy day in the market

* Tables of armor (we may need more armor images around here)

* Murder Scenes

* Forge

* Dragon Hordes/Treasure Piles

* Scattered garbage/refuse

* Scattered bodies (for a battlefield)

* Bookshelves with books (as per previously posted shelves.

* Basic Temple with altar, pews, statues etc

* Alchemist's lab

* General Store (Bit of everything)

* Burial chamber with grave goods (think Tutankhamen)

* Here's a list of medieval professions, many of whom still need tables http://pbem.ax2groin.com/profs.html

* Siege equipment stations (ammo, spare weapons, tools to fix yer catapult. (tower optional)

* Saw mill / carpentry worksite

For the brave souls making tables, table contents without the actual table would be invaluable. That way we can throw your contents .png onto a table of our choice and then we're set (er preset as it were), dm142 did with the card table/poker game.

Keep up the good work guys!

I just had an idea for some presets. It's really more of a request, since the most I'll ever be able to actually contribute here will be Dundjinni maps populated with stuff created by you brilliant artists.

Has anyone done any floor presets? What I mean by that is some huge freaking 40'x40' or so floor stamps that we, the great artistically challenged proletariat, can plunk down in Dundjinni to design maps on top of.

I got the idea after looking closely at the floor of a basement map SC designed for me. I wanted to do something approaching that level of detail, realism, and randomness for a map I'm designing... but holy crap! Even using many of the beautiful floor tiles I've found on these forums, it would take me AGES to smudge, customize, and otherwise tweak a floor long enough to make it that realistic. And it still wouldn't be nearly as good. This got me to thinking... What if I could just grab that floor and stamp it down on my map and build my dungeon on top of it!

So how about it? I was sure that someone had already come up with the idea, but I couldn't find any on the forums. Anyway, just a thought I had!

DJ might have a hard time with 40' x 40' stamps, and I think floors HAVE to be 200 pixel squares to work properly.

A lowest quality, fully white stamp of 6400x8000 pixels (jpg) is already about 850Kb and a simple grass stamp at full quality (also jpg) is 88Mb ... So I don't recommend using full map sized stamps.
You need a pretty powerful PC to use stamps like that.

but what if you only did a 40'x40' floor? that would only be 1600x1600 pixels at 200px = 5'? a .png of that size only weighs in at around 1 to 3mb, depending on the complexity. i'm sure it could get bigger if there's a ton of color variation, but is this too large

Nope, I use loads of pieces like that. They have enough variety and are small enough. If you like to use them as background (floors), you best pick a properties file you don't use for anything else or for very few pieces. I prefer Treasure. That way you can still erase stuff without hurting the background

The best solution for floors that big is to make them in photoshop....taht is waht I do...I lay my doors and walls in dundjinni...windows If needed be..than I stop right there. I put a solid color for the floor like a very aggresive blue and then export the map...when the map is in photoshop I just delete the falshy blue color and then I do my floor on a layer under it...then I start populating my map in photoshop bridge...its taking more time in photoshop for sure......but still you can choose a shadow setting for all objects..do color mods, filters and so on.....love to do my map in photoshop but still it's 5 times more time consuming than doing them in dudnjinni!
From begginer to intermediate dundjinni is really by far the best way to map....when you get at expert level you want to play with every single objects and shadows and all sorts of stuff.....so dundjinni is still the best solution for you Jeremy....patience is your first weapon for becoming a master mapper...
taking your time is what makes a map truly unique
and plus if you dont know photoshopp well then you are in trouble...
You can still create some floors in photoshop blend the side with some feathering and save them in png..after that you save them in the covers folder.....there you go you now have your floors as you want them!

go for it, ae! let me just get my helmet on!

actually, my biggest concern was making something that no one would be able to use. it sounds like a pretty good idea: make a preset floor that can be dropped in any room 40'x40' or smaller. if 3mb isn't too large some might find items like that pretty useful. if we could get cisti to post a few of his phenomenal floors i know they'd find their way into my maps!

Well I'm better then cisti
Lolll Kidding..yeah cisti is really the floor master I have to admit!
Still we could have plenty of choice if presets were made....would have to be hosted elsewehere to be able to post things that Huge...I have like 50 already done....but still don't feel like posting all of them loll.
But if someone feels like it than hihhhhhhhhaaaaaa that would be great for sure !
Thansk for making this thred one of the most popular on the site..its been some time since the last preset..who's next ???

After using a lot of DJ art in the last months for all kind of projects, I considered contributing to the forums with a couple of homemade items.

Using a handful of user-created items (thanks to Aegean, Dragonwolf, Greytale, Bludragn and SteelRat) and a tile roof texture I got from the web, here's what I've managed to create. Feel free to use it in any way you want, or ask for specific mods...

Hi there ! I've been busy creating the inside of the house. BAsically, there's going to be two levels for the house : the second floor will be on top of the mini-cellar, with a rough bed and a table for accomodation.

I didn't have anything specific in mind when I starte this, but I guess it's becoming some kind of a rural B&B for travellers : owner upstairs, guests downstairs by the chimney.

More to come later. Hope you like it ! :)

Heh, I've managed to complete it today. Small changes have been added, with the cellar now being a closed room. You'll have to find the trapdoor upstairs if you want to grab the treasure chest... a kind thought for all adventurers (finding secrets is the part I like best in a game... so why couldn't mundane, ordinary houses have their own secrets ??)

Anyway, here it is :

Png coming soon, after double checking for errors.

Hope you like it !

A bench for a whittler, or small time carpenter. Also included a version with no bench so you can add your own table.

The little whittled item in the corner is based on a photo taken by "Avia Venefica" from flickr.

I've been working with my Geomorphic tavern project, and I've done some items worth posting here.

A new bar:

A shelf to go with that bar:

And a new stove/indoor BBQ for the tavern:

Enjoy,

I'm still pretty much cut off from the net (someone used an excavator where a cable with 1500 pairs of copper cable was burried in the ground.

So, I will upload a bunch of tavern presets, stoves etc when I get back online for real (on 3G/GPRS tethering via my iPhone right now).

But here is a mod I made for one of my stoves....

Edit:

Added one more delicious dish from the goblin chefs menu

Gonna upload some of my presets, need some space for the rest > (500 KB)

Bogie, Greytale, Aegean, dw and a few more have supplied some of the base material for these.

And the ones that are too large, so they go as zips:

(My personal favorite)

E7C_made-table-tavern-4-4e.png.zip

F2E_tilted-table-tavern-1-4e.png.zip

Enjoy!

The last one makes me think of "Baby Herman" in "Who framed Roger
Rabbit?".

-"This stinks like yesterdays diapers". That baby could be used to wipe out a
whole bandits nest, just toss her on, and the impact will release the baby
back to the mother, releasing an odor that will render anyone inside
unconscious, you've invented the worlds first flash-bang, with a twist.

I'm currently working on a large building to be used in a variety of ways. Tavern, bakery, alchemists house. For now, I've only managed to do the outdoor version and the 1st floor of the tavern (which still need lighting effects, though).

It's pretty time-consuming... :(

Hope the final result wil come up to your expectations !

The last couple of Totte and Bogie tables have a really superb feeling of depth to them.
Also looking forward to you next building Mr Popo!

Hi Starjammer,
Yes, well I'm trying to anyway... How about:

Master Tottes Thermopolium.

"These new fellows eh? Don't allow their workers to sit down to eat - just pick it up and get out..."

The masters main supplier, a known Bogite worshipper, caters to some bizzare modern tastes. Some posh looking (but fake) Keplierian pottery is positioned so hick outsiders can be blamed (and charged)when it "accidentally" breaks. The big door fits in the slots at the front at night. A few seedy looking regulars are allowed to use the table at the back...

[This is a jpeg - full size version 2.9mb on RpgMapshare. Must say exporting at 200dpi makes even the jpeg quite detailed!]

As the crate of kittens does not show up clearly, it will appear in the Butchers Shop version... As always, any suggestions appreciated.

LOL @ ProBono ;-)
Love the map, like the way you fixed the "bad flooring", nice touch indeed.
Looks like I started a trend, and I see you use the "not that evil" IronDwarfs
kittens in a crate ;-)

That is awesome ProBono, and you can stamp it in a indoor setting as well as an outdoor. By the way do you have a roof for it.

Hi StarJammer,

No roof yet but I made it 6x4 squares (same as Mr Popo's house) so one option is to use other folks' roofs (perhaps modded) or doing a tiled one eventually. There are several batches of roofs out in the forums. Thinking next though of more shops (Tottes pottery perhaps?), and, being based (loosely) on old Pompeii, the shops might have an upper apartment with stairs at the back or side.

As Mr Popo says "It's pretty time-consuming...", but hey, it's fun!

@ ProBono : 6x4 you said, what kind of roof do you want?
I can probably wrap together a few roofs fitting a 6x4 house, if that is
interesting?

Oh Totte,

and there was me wanting a flat roof to hang the washing lines up on...

Excellent, thanks! Only thoughts on roofs are modularity might be helped by separate chimmneys and external staircases. Will experiment... Bigger than 6x4 squares as an Object might be a bit large. I was following Mr Popo's size as it seems balanced - not sure if other folks have views on a "standard" size of preset house/ floor?

I can make some larger ones if you like, but flat roof? You don't live where
the snow can be 2-3 feet deep?

I think it allows for a good variety of layouts, which I'll be experimenting as soon as my tavern is finished. ;-)

All the stuff in this thread is extremely useful... well, I'm not sure how much I'd use the baby with the ridiculously full napkin - LOL! Still, I am very appreciative of all you artists that contribute. Thank you, thank you!

Hey guys

I've been very busy lately with my job and family, and didn't get much time to work on my inn/tavern. However, I managed to add a couple items and lighting effects to the 1st floor :

And here's a close-up of the kitchen and main room. I added some straw here and there, but I'm not sure whether this is a plausible addition or not. I vaguely remember this was used for hygienic purposes (or sawdust, maybe).

And here's a reminder of the previous house I made, set by the countryside :

More to come, er... someday ! ^^

Vielen Dank, Totte ! ;-)

And while baby was taking her afternoon nap, I started working on the 2nd floor. I only had time to do the basic room layout and place the objects in the 1st room. Basically, the room is supposed to be rented by some magician or wise man, with lots of books exerywhere. I think I'll be doing a thief's room too, since there's a nice item I'm eager to use (a thief's workbench, really nice, crisp with details and lots of stuff... love it).

I was considering posting a preview here, but would that be appropriate ? I mean, it's a finished objects thread, so maybe I should be posting this in another section...

Feel free to send me to another part of the forum in WIPs are not allowed here (I hadn't thought of this before).

Here are some bath presets, using some of FBs and GTs stuff, and mine of cause.

After the dwarf took the yearly bath:

Those are really nice presets. They save a lot of work, especially the bottom
one.

Nice job, Bogie. Saw your post, so thought we could upload now. Not me though, guess it's not working for everyone....

It's not working for anyone. I posted these at Creative Gremlins and Hotlinked from there. While that is usually frowned upon, They have generously offered to let us do that.

Indeed!

I made some Scrolls in DAZ3D with textures from CGTextures, struck various pics/text on them and here it is:

Everything but the scrolls is pillaged from DJ folks - too many for the filename - so I called it _DJ.

Enjoy!

Inspired by Wolfboys fine new candle holder... found here....I made the orb and scroll in DAZ, the rest was the usual pillaging from the forums.

Now that's how you make a comeback!

I like the high level of detail, the way it looks appropriately messy, the
lighting effects, the layout, and the choice of items. I can't really find
anything to criticize, except maybe that we need some horse manure
overlays for these, since not everyone keeps their horse stalls so clean.

Excellent-looking mine tunnels, SC. Yes, that's the sort of thing I'm looking
for (and definitely the sort of quality, too). Do all your mine tunnels have
tracks in them, or are some just empty tunnels?

Are the walls an inherent part of each mine section, or are they designed like
your horse stall presets, which can be stamped down over any texture?

Please email me at the address I gave, so that I can contact you off-forum.

SC, The Nook is doing well thank you for asking, though the past week we have had some hosting issues but it is getting better. Glad to see you back creating.

Great Work Bogie, how ever a small suggestion, Take the
extra fish skeletons off the Barrel's lid. It looks awesome
but I'd like to see it without that if it's not too much
trouble. Surely going to snag either way. Thanks for the
preset.

Great job Blu

It would also work great as my front steps if I wanted to keep uninvited quests away.

It's not hard to get started. Stuff on tables is the easiest. Use any editing program that will work with png files and supports transparency.

Open a table and decide what you want on it, mugs, food, items, weapons etc. Open them and paste them on top of the table. Save as .png at 200 dpi in a size that 5 ft = 200 pixels.
To make them look more dimensional use things like boxes and barrels that stick out from under the table.

It just takes a little practice.

Here is a table where the adventurers are Planning their next outing.

And this is a table where the adventurers are dividing up their treasure afterwards.

@Blu - that is a bit tricky, as I know some presets (hopefully not mine, I try
to use my own art) use pieces that are "non-comm", so I think you need to
think twice, but for 99% there should be no problems. I know cause I had to
check that carefully for "The Neverending..." series..

Hard to tell on some of them so I am hoping they are cause I used a few of them on some maps I am making. I will try to post one of the buildings I made and used some of the presets in for all to see later today as a JPG.

I guess who ever have noncomms has to yell in this thread. Some non-
comms end up i a mod, then a small preset, then a large present (gt's bucket
is the best example of an item set as non-comm but is everywhere)

But they are quick and easy, so if I'm not doing something else....you get tables

Plain Version:

Table with stuff on it:
This is the new version

Note: If you downloaded the table with the gold sarcophagus on it, please handle it as Personal Use only.

I see part of the "stuff" is the Oprah sarcophagus. [Artist Daniel Edwards - do not look up other stuff by him - too weird!] Some time ago I tried to find if it was Public Domain (it seems widely used) - question is it PD (or so widely used it becomes it)? Full size makes a very special crypt item...

You've chosen a hard life as a Moderator....

The pic is from a press release by Leo Kesting gallery here (look for Daniel Edwards on the left hand menu, no direct link). I do not know if a press released picture makes it pd.

>>As yours is a derivative of a work of satire, perhaps a "personnal-use only" note may be ok(?)

>>Perhaps the mere thought of litigation would have you quickly place a mug on top of it(?)
See the Scary copyright thread.

>>Perhaps a Bogie could run in to the gallery and take a pic - then it's his!

(The Oprah sarcophagus is a derivative of the classic Willendorf Venus ancient statues of which there are several GNU licenced pics on Wiki. I didn't recognise Oprah either, not enough afternoon TV...)

Great bar stuff SC, as always!

@Bogie- I can still see Oprahs' foot sticking out..

Anyway, a mod of the Fluxx surgery, but with my favourite Bogie tables underneath. Parts also by hrc, sum, rke, pdn, Cecil, sr, totte, and probably some others (so file marked DJ).

...And some parts of it cut out...

Those are very cool Probono! Great work!

I knew that the "foot" was still showing but if you didn't see the original, you'd not be able to recognize where that splotch of gold came from so I left it.

Actually, I'm thinking of a banquet hall, and Bogie? Your
tables are going to rock. Is there any chance you might
have one of the more elegant styles in a round form? If
not, I might just try my hand at object creation.

You haven't been lurking here long enough if you have to ask that question. Here are a few tables with chairs.

And as requested:

Nice sets, Bogie.

But on the first two, you need to set the black level properly on the chairs, in
order to better match the tables (otherwise, the chairs look washed out). In
other words, get some true black in the chairs, if you can manage it.

As usual, everyone on this bloody forum goes *way* above
and beyond. Thanks
a ton, Bogie, those tables are all gorgeous. I was struck
by a bit of
inspiration, and it seems this map may end up
incorporating a *lot* of this
thread. Heck, I'm still trying to find a place to slip in
the D&D table.

I have a feeling my players are gonna love this, once my
campaign rolls
around.

Edit: Oh, and one other thing. I'm still a bit of a
novice with the program...is there an easy way to scale
objects? I'd like to use TheSim's royal guard figures,
but with the map I'm making, they come out looking more
like giants. Tips?

Your welcome.

It is easy to re-size objects in DJ.

Just use the Select Tool (looks like a Cursor Arrow)
to select an object. When you do, a toolbar will pop up near the top that lets you manipulate the object. Use the box labeled "Size" and change the % to enlarge or reduce the object.

These tables are a little bit larger than they should be, so scaling them to 70% or 80% will be more accurate.

The baker often known as "The Muffin Man" has a marketstall where he sells his goods. If it is hot out he will sometimes put up a canopy to make some shade.
He sells bread, pies, pastries and Muffins of course!

It is a great floor, but unfortunately not a tile. It is just a jpg pic used as a background. If you are interested in it you can get it at CGTEXTURES

A small horse pen. The png is too large to upload here even as a zip so I put
it elsewhere ;-)

Nice pen Totte, watch out PB doesn't steal your horses!

Only complaint is the fence boards have some unnatural kinks, (and if anyone knows about unnatural kinks, it's me!)

Is it a small pen for big horses or a big pen for small horses?

Great work as always Totte.

@Bogie : I know, but I didn't make the fence, it is probably just bad looking
top-down. I can use my own fence and make a variation, problem was that
my Vue as busy rendering something else. I have 16 cores, why let then rest?

It's unoccupied right now o I'll give it a shot.

Curiosity strikes again...
But these presets, do they need
to be resized according to some kind of size parameter or
can they be used as is?

Thanks in advance!

Depends. many are too big to be used in Dundjinni (both pixelwise and
memorywise), other fit and other needs to be resized to 200 pixels / 5 feet
or 40 pixels / feet.

Its a trials and error ;-)

Good, useful table sets, Digger.

I'd also offer the same point for the table shadow on the ladder backs of the chairs. They need a shadow as well, for depth, so you can tell the chairs are chairs and not stools.

Also, one of my very first thoughts when I saw these was about a dagger stuck, point first, into the table and/or the map.

Haven't seen one of those in a while.

Okay, I'll jump in with a planning table too... you know, since variety is "the spice" and all.

Fantastic Digger! The big scroll and the paper piles are especially nice, any chance of getting them as separate items? I like the extra detail of the glasses, but they seem just a little small relative to the other items.
