Hi folks....
I thought (for a bit of fun) that I would post the development
of my competition map as I go along....
....It will keep changing....some times quite drastically...
and I thought that I would at least share my draft maps...normally they get deleted and never see the light of day
....Anyhow...you have seen this one before...it was my first
quick test map:
I have taken this and made a more detailed base map....
a nice clean canvas to work on....Not sure about the water yet so may change that....
The terrain is made & rendered in bryce...saved as a jpeg and then opened
in DJ.....where I will stamp loads of cool art down.
(makes a pretty nice encounter map on its own...what do you think?)

Very cool, but I'm not sure about that water either. It looks a little bit too rough.

Works great as a generic "cliff by the beach" map. Thanks for posting your
WIPs.

Amazing map and love the idea of works in progress being posted! It'll help us peons greatly understand the methods and thought processes behind some of the great maps.

Here is the piece of terrain I created in Bryce...the rest
of the detail is added in Gimp and the beach
area was done in DJ (see above)....

This is the left section of the map....its an island
offshore with lots of wrecked boats & ships....the waters
are shark-infested...yipes!
I have decided to go for a tropical theme.....pirates &
smugglers...so I will need to re-work the beach & sea on
my first map to match this.....
I have decided my map will be called 'Skeleton Coast'..
after my favorite place i have visited...the fabled coast
of namibia.....

That texture looks great, particularly under water. Those shadows there look a bit strange, though . . . I can't figure out what casts them.
I have a WIP, sort of . . . but I work much too untidy to really feel like showing it off . . .
