This is going to be a series of city maps for my next
adventure....my cities Greyhawk, but the maps will be
generic enough that you can use them for your own game...

...first off, one of the city gates....

...There DJ only....no postwork...getting good at this

WOW - I re-did my buildings because I thought the old ones look naff.

Probably would never have done them If this map had been posted......

Also I'm now gonna post some towers I've been meaning to do some post work on......

WOW again awesome map

Thanks for the compliments guys...

....takes some pre-planning to do this in DJ....but once
you figure out what objects you are using, you just
create individual shadows for each....and no postwork
needed....

...SC...I will do a night scene...blood-red moon sounds
cool....

Heruca...no what you mean, might replace that with a
better suited peice..have a look through my seige
weapons....

Ae....plan to use your recent buildings you posted
for my big city section map....could have done with some
towers for this one...but your stairs look cool...

What I do need...is some burnt out buildings...anybody
come across any?...need a house and a small chapel.. ...(there gonna be part of a side-trek adventure)

Will post towers tonight....

Can you define "burnt" and will a small old british style church is very possible - does that also need to be burnt?

Happy to see some of my pieces used - very happy the well is getting used atm.

can you post tonight about the burnt buildings....

ae

...Towers...cool, will use them in another map I have
planned

...the burnt buildings, I was thinking would have
internal fire damage....so basically they would be 'gutted' and
have some damage to the roofs and some smoke staining...
The chapel was the focus of the attack and the house
next door just happened to get burnt as well.

They do not need to be big structures...this part of the
city only has small buildings crammed together with little
alleyways inbetween.

A small British church would be cool.....

.....Thanks for your help Ae....

Each object has its own shadow:

All you need to do is work out what art you are going
to use and just create shadows for each...its just a
case of moving them around in DJ until it looks OK

Thought as much and oviously it works but would it not be easier just to 'airbrush' in a shadow in say Photoshop? I'd imagine creating a shadow for every object in a full sized battlemap would be pretty arduous(did I spell that right?)

Anyhow very inspiring maps all the same

....Not every object has a shadow...there is no need
to go overboard...that map took me an hour and a half
to do....

....see my tutorial and you will see how easy it is to do ..'airbrushing' takes forever and I never use
that technique....

Also, this way it becomes a non-postwork map - thus making it legal in even the strictest forum contest.

Exactly!...

...Besides, I am always fiddling and trying to find
different ways of doing things...Doing shadows this
way is nothing new, though it has never been done to this
extent before....

...I know alot of people are concerned about postwork
and that they think they do'nt have the skill to tackle
shadows....I thought this method would show people you
can get good results with the minimum of effort...your
just taking a ready made object and making it a shadow,
which you can easily use in DJ....you do not have to
create many to get a good effect...just concentrate
on your big objects....buildings, towers, statues, trees etc..
no need to do shadows for small things.....

i have a request, 2 actually...

1. please post that very nice looking cobblestone floor you are using, as well as the Calliope Ballista. ive been looking for one of those, but cant find any.

2. how do you do night scenes and darkened areas in DJ? i havent seen a button or whatever for it. and by default, the red tint and separated shadows.

im using Maptool, and only saw the fog of war tools for it.

The Ballista is in this post by Greytale:

awesome, thank you

ive seen a similar device in many movies, particularly Willow. Madmartigan uses a multi-shot ballista (i call it a Calliope, i think i read about it somewhere) to defend the castle gates when Kale's army attacks Tiras Leen. a wide plank is fired catapult style, and smacks into the back of a row of tubes, each containing a ballista bolt or spear. the spears are propelled outwards. an excellent anti-infantry weapon.

I am afraid you cannot do night-time scenes (as yet) in DJ

GIMP is something I'm slowly becoming proficient at. I'll be looking to pick up a WACOM tablet soon to use it even better, but currently I'd put myself just behind Cisti in terms of skill. The tutorials are nice, but ultimately it took a lot more playing with the tools than following directions.

That said, as Cisti indicated, just ask for help and I'm sure someone can pitch in.

Also - you can use Photoshop tutorials as guides for just about everything. Certain tools work differently, but the basic principles are almost identical.

@Cisti

Have started to re-render my towers - still trying to get them to snap - but if not each package should have around 20 pieces - straight - straight corners, round corners, spam, round towers - 2 sizes also in a lot more colours textures will try to do some steps for the inside of walls / parapets and such so you can do walls / towers in one go.

But as you can imagine I have to set up quite a system to do this - first should be appearing first thing next week.

ae

If that fits in with you GreyHawk schedule

Any other castle city related stuff needed?.....

ae

Your maps never cease to amaze, Cisticola.

My only quibble is with the night map. It looks like modern fluorescent
lighting. If it's not meant to be magical lighting, I'd try a yellowish tint to the
lit areas, and perhaps a bluish tint to the dark areas.
